Performances by Skylight members are often staged in St Chads. Several of our performance projects over the years have been theme-based multi artform spectacles, sometimes site specific or needing a much bigger space and often created for outside events.
Examples of performance in last five years:
‘Looming Brilliant’ with M6 and Chance Media, used projected images from Ellenroad mill and music devised from recordings of its engines, This show was part of the Cultural Olympiad 2012.
‘Alice in the Underworld’ an acclaimed circus, music and theatre performance created by Skylight’s staff and adult performers
‘Broadwater’ an ambitious promenade performance through the old swimming baths building (our home for twenty five years), bringing its history to life with circus, drama, dance and poetry
‘Angel’ based on the fate of a statue that stood nearby, performed by Skylight classes to celebrate the move to St Chad’s, with poetry by Touchstone Writers Group.
Rochdale Business Awards performances in the Town Hall by Skylight Staff
‘Revealing the Roch’ a partnership performance project coordinated by Skylight with Can’t Dance Can, Chance Media, Broadfield Park Primary School, Hopwood Hall College performing arts students and a Spotland Older people’s Group, to celebrate the opening up of the river and bridge in the Town Centre
Rochdale Link4Life Arts Awards at Middleton Arena where Skylight aerial performance opened the night and then later we received an award.
Performance by staff
Skylight workshops are sometimes combined with a two-person show featuring circus, clowning and illusion.
Skylight Nursery Show and Have-a-go has been devised as a gentle introduction to live performance, aiming to stimulate language development.
Walkabout from costumed stilt-walkers or other characters is sometimes available. Our young performers sometimes display their skills with aerial, stilts, or other walkabout.
Performance and Rehearsal Space
Skylight is a resource for artists, a space for making and creating shows. It has a studio theatre with raked seating for 70 and a small sound system with DMX lighting.
Skylight hosts touring companies who rehearse and provide training and occasionally have the thrill of hosting the performance. Citrus Arts – performed their beautiful ‘CEIRW – SAVAGE HART’ in Skylight as part of their 2016 tour.
Michelle Weaver of Stumble danceCircus has devised and rehearsed several shows in our space, providing masterclasses for our young people and adult members.
Our hall and kitchen can be hired by other organisation when not in use for classes and projects.
